Christopher Sands is a Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute and Senior Research Professor and Director of the Center for Canadian Studies at the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies. From 2002 to 2007, Sands was Director of Strategic Planning and Evaluation at the International Republican Institute(IRI). In this capacity, his responsibilities included program development, liaison with democracy support efforts of key U.S. allies, special projects on economic and technological impacts on the spread of democracy, and project evaluation. Prior to joining IRI, Sands was a fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) and Director of the Canada Project, the center’s ongoing research effort on Canadian affairs. In this capacity, he wrote and lectured extensively on Canadian politics and the role of the U.S. congress in North America. Sands is a regular lecturer on Canada at the U.S. Department of State’s Foreign Service Institute, and author of Canada: A Self-Study Guide, a training manual for foreign service officers and their families published by the U.S. State Department. Sands holds master’s and doctoral degrees in Canadian studies and international economics from the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies at the Johns Hopkins University.
